I am an intern on the Data & Consumer Insights team. I graduated with an MA degree in Media & Creative Industries from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam in 2019. The course focused on the business side of the film and television industry, as well as audience research, which are areas I always found fascinating.  I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in the entertainment business, therefore a placement at WarnerMedia seemed like the perfect opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the industry with such a renowned company, while also learning about the most recent TV and audience trends from the first hand.  Entering the entertainment industry straight out of university can be quite difficult and intimidating, and I knew that doing a placement year was going to give me the skills and confidence that would make the path to my dream job so much easier.

Describe your average working day.

My role mostly revolves around collecting insights and creating reports about WarnerMedia TV shows and their viewers – from Looney Tunes to Rick and Morty. I also help with keeping an eye on the new and upcoming projects of our competitors, as well as the most recent developments in the TV industry. The day-to-day tasks are always changing, which makes my job really exciting. On an average day, some of the projects I might be working on include: Preparing show launch reports which track the success of our newly launched shows across EMEA based on various TV and web metrics, Creating overviews of the monthly viewership trends for our linear TV channels, Researching new and upcoming TV series, Putting together reports that help us understand our viewers, their behaviours, interests and needs. For example, looking into how children spend their time, or collecting insights about the various ethnic, cultural and linguistic groups across our international markets. So that we can create programs that are representative of the diverse identities of our viewers, Attending focus group screenings for upcoming TV shows and so much more!

What do you enjoy most about your role?

For me, one of the most exciting aspects of the role has been how much I'm learning about the TV industry every day, no matter what task I'm working on. Even just looking up translations or ratings of local shows allows me to get a good grasp of what the TV market in that country looks like, what genres and TV formats seem to be the most popular at the moment etc. The other one is my team, which is truly amazing. I was a bit worried about starting my first graduate job in such a large corporate business, but the atmosphere in our department is extremely friendly, and everyone is always happy to help.

What’s your favourite WarnerMedia film/TV show/game?

At the moment, my favourite WarnerMedia film would have to be Joker. As well as everything Harry Potter, of course. As for TV series, definitely Euphoria on HBO. Not only are the aesthetics pure art, but I really appreciate the dedication to bringing diverse stories and characters to the screen!
